Therapist/ Executive Functioning Skills Coach
Shannon O'Sullivan, M.S.

Shannon shares her time between working in the school system as a Certified School Counselor and as a therapist at Welsh Therapy. Shannon works with children, teens, college students, young adults and adults.
Shannon works with adolescents and young adults who are experiencing anxiety, depression, depersonalization, ADHD, self-harm, bipolar disorder, borderline personality disorder, family conflict, substance abuse, and anger management. Shannon's approach is personable and direct. She's excellent with kids and has a relaxed and personable therapeutic approach.
Shannon utilizes a Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) approach in her work. She empowers her clients by teaching them coping skills they can use daily outside the session. Shannon's approach to therapy is also strengths-based, as she works with her clients to find their inner strength and resources that help them handle daily life. Shannon's clients begin to use CBT skills to regulate their emotions when they feel triggered and immobilized by an emotion. Shannon also employs a Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT) approach to help clients balance acceptance and change, especially for clients that experience their emotions intensely.
Shannon is part of our Parent Support Team at Welsh Therapy. Families that benefit from family therapy are first given a parent support therapist to prepare them for family therapy. Shannon will work with parents to help them be a deeper container for their child's emotions and build a bridge for the parent-child relationship to flourish into more profound understanding and mutual respect.
In addition, Shannon, a certified school counselor, has experience working with clients who have ADHD, learning disabilities, executive functioning issues, and other mental health symptoms that interfere with their performance at school or contribute to school avoidance.
In these cases, Shannon does the following.
- Shannon can be an advocate for students who require accommodations.
-Shannon works closely with Dr Katie Bascom, who performs all the psychological testing for our Welsh Therapy and PS Psychiatry practices.
-Shannon can help to create a weekly study schedule, and sit beside them while the work is being done. Shannon helps them get organized and feel less overwhelmed
